Qi Gong is an ancient form of physical exercise that works you through a system of movements that help to rejuvenate the body. The origins of this practice reach back almost 4,000 years to Chinese villages where it was considered to be a natural form of preventative medicine.
Today, we know that the movements help you to find a natural flow and rhythm within your body, connecting you to the ebb and flow of your breath. As you learn to flow smoothly between each movement you begin to softly strength your body while your muscles ease causing an increase in the general flexibility and endurance. Like any form of exercise, it is important to create a practice that helps to change the body over a period of time.
“One of June’s greatest supporters is her husband, my father. Almost a decade ago life started to catch up with him. Bouts with cancer, general illness, and few hard falls had severally changed his physical and mental health. Although I am an adult it was had to watch my father, who had seemed indestructible, fall prey to a series of heavy prescriptions and their side-effects. He would drift in and out of conversations, cry out in pain, and seemed to be in a constant state of confusion. It was hard to see how the pain medicine played with his mind…Somehow my mother coxed him to join her for a few Qi Gong classes. That was when everything changed. While my father can still be forgetful but that’s just because he has never been able to remember where he last put his glasses. His pain level has completely decreased, his flexibility has improved, and I finally have my dad back.” – Wendy E. Braun
“One of the amazing things about Qi Gong is that you are never too young or too old. The ease in which the body moves supports you so you don’t have to worry about your age or your body type.”
It wasn’t just June’s daughter who saw the change, perhaps and more importantly it was June. Having felt changes within her own body, and seeing the positive effects on her husband, she began to purse the path of becoming certified. Today, June is happy to be a certified instructor. She considers this such a blessed practice that she is able to share with her family, friends, and her students.
