Yejune Kim ( June )
Hi there! I’m Yejune Kim (she/her/hers), a composer from Seoul, South Korea. I have been diving into the musical theatre scene here, actively presenting my musical works and performing as a pianist and music director. While I was in Seoul, I worked as a producer and arranger for the music accompaniment app. I earned my MFA from NYU Tisch’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and my BA in Musicology with a minor in Composition from Korea National University of Arts. I’m now a member of the Dramatists Guild and a directory member of Maestra and Rise.
I believe music is a powerful way to communicate. Conveying clear messages with emotional depth is key in my compositions. I’m interested in hearing about people’s lives and finding inspiration in their stories, and one reason I love musical theatre is that it is the genre most closely connected to humanity. I’m especially drawn to the raw voices that come from deep within people’s hearts, particularly those dealing with inner pain. In my quest to capture true intentions and explore new musical horizons, I enjoy incorporating elements from various musical genres and cultures, blending them together to create something unique. I hope my music touches people’s hearts and leaves a meaningful impact.
On top of all that, I also love teaching music. Talking about music with young students often inspires me. With my diverse music background, I aim to share not just music skills but also a deep understanding of music. Currently, I teach piano and music theory at Vienna Music. It’s such a joy to guide students on their musical journeys and to help them nurture their creativity and potential.
Fun Fact: I have a soft spot for chubby animals 👀 — I love their easygoing nature, taking life slowly.. and their soft bellies!
